Congress to Hold Key Meeting with Bihar Leaders Ahead of RJD Seat-Sharing Talks

Congress is set to hold a crucial meeting with Bihar leaders in Delhi, followed by formal seat-sharing discussions with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) for the upcoming 2025 assembly elections. According to sources, the party has learned from the 2020 assembly elections and is now focusing on securing winnable seats rather than simply increasing its share in the alliance with RJD.

The exact timing of the meeting with Bihar leaders has not been disclosed yet. However, Congress is already gathering opinions from state leaders about which seats to claim from RJD. So far, there have been no official discussions between RJD and Congress regarding the seat distribution.

In the 2020 assembly elections, Congress contested 70 seats, securing 17. Meanwhile, RJD won 72 of the 144 seats. Congress believes that in the previous elections, RJD allocated mostly losing seats to Congress, which led to a poor strike rate for the party. Hence, Congress intends to avoid repeating this mistake in the 2025 elections.

In the last elections, Congress received seats in areas such as Nalanda, Patna, Khagaria, West Champaran, Gopalganj, and Gaya, where the caste equation was less favorable to RJD. However, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Congress secured 3 out of 9 seats, with areas like Nalanda and Gopalganj going to RJD’s account in the assembly elections.
